Why Your Wireless Charger Is Not Working with Case and How to Fix It
Some wireless chargers are not designed to work with cases. Confirm with the seller or the manufacturer if the wireless charger you bought is case friendly or not.
These wireless chargers work well with most cases in the market. You should get one or two.
If your wireless charger supports charging through cases but now it is not working with your phone’s case, here are the most common causes and solutions to fix:
Cause: You use a metal case or the case contains metal materials.
A Qi wireless chargers will not work with metal cases. And some cases are made with metal materials in order to make it more durable – this will also interfere with the wireless charging process. And that’s why you may see the wireless charger not working with case.
Solution: Remove the case and put the phone onto the wireless charger.
The charger will recognize the phone and start charging it. If you prefer charging through a case, buy another non-metal case for the phone. TPU or PC cases are the ideal ones to work with wireless charging.
Cause: There are other foreign objects between the phone back and the wireless charger.
Any metal objects, magnets, magnetic stripe cards, RFID card, credit card, Door lock or other foreign objects between the phone and the wireless charger may stop the wireless charging process.
Solution: Remove all these foreign objects.
Do not put any foreign objects, especially the metal or magnet ones on the back of the phone. These foreign objects are the one of the most common issues that cause the wireless charger not working with case.
Cause: The phone is not on the exact center of the wireless charger.
If the phone is not on the exact center of the wireless charger, the coil from the phone and the one in the wireless charger can not be aligned correctly. Thus the wireless charger won’t recognize your phone in any way.
Solution: Reposition the phone.
You may need to reposition the phone for a few times to find the exact center of the wireless charger.
Cause: There is an inner issue from the wireless charger.
A Qi wireless charger is a smart gadget and it has systems built in. If there is an issue or conflict, it may stop charging your phone with a case on.
Solution: Reset or restart the wireless charger.
A unplug and replug of the cable or the power adapter will reset and restart the wireless charger.
Cause: You use a wrong cable or power adapter for the wireless charger.
An wrong cable or power adapter may cause the wireless charger to stop working or to stop fast charging your phone through case. For example, if you use a 5A/2V adapter, your wireless charger won’t charge the phone fast through case, which it should be.
Solution: Change the cable or the power adapter.
Use the original cable and the power adapter that come with the wireless charger you bought. If there is none, use the original cable of your phone, and buy a Quick Charge 2.0 or 3.0 adapter if your wireless charger supports fast charging modes.
Cause: An app has bugs that stop wireless charging.
If an app you installed on the phone has issues, it may cause conflicts that make the wireless charger not charging through case.
Solution: Check if any app causes the issue and update or uninstall it.
If you’ve recently installed some apps, and then found the wireless charger not charging your phone through case, chances are that one or two of these apps cause the problem.
Restart it to Safe Mode. This will help check if a third party app is causing the issue.
Take Samsung Galaxy S9 as the example:
1. Turn the phone off.
2. Press and hold the Power Key until the “Samsung” appears on the screen. Then release the Power key.
3. Press and hold the Volume down key. The phone will finish restarting.
4. You will see Safe mode in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key now.
5. Place the phone onto the charger and see if it’s charged.
If yes, definitely one of the apps is causing the issue. Uninstall the apps you’ve added recently. You can uninstall the app one by one and then check if the wireless charger not fast charging issue disappears.
Or you can try to update it to the latest version to see if the issue can be solved.
Cause: Your iPhone or Android phone does not have the latest software version.
The outdated software version may cause wireless charging problems, including the not charging with case issue. We’ve seen many reports on Samsung smartphones and iPhones.
Solution: Update the software to the latest version.
Always keep the software updated. Go to Settings to check if there is a new version. If yes, do an update.
Cause: Heating up may stop the wireless charging.
If the phone is too warm during wireless charging, the software will stop charging automatically to prevent further harms. That’s why you sometimes see the charging process stops when your phone is only at 80% or at other percentage.
Solution: Cool the phone and the wireless charger.
Move the phone and the wireless charger to another cooler position. Once the temperature goes down, the charger will charge the phone again. Do no move the phone and the charger into a fridge. Extreme temperature will cause damage to them.
