Below are the whole list of iPhones that are compatible with wireless charging.
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max

- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone XR

All these iPhones have wireless charging built in. And this feature is enabled by default. Once you put one of these iPhones onto a Qi wireless charger, it will get charged immediately.
If you use a fast wireless charger (a QC 3.0 AC adapter is needed), these iPhones will be charged in fast wireless charging.
Please note that wired charging always takes priority. So do not plug these iPhones into a USB cable if you want them to be charged wirelesssly on a wireless charger.
iPhone That Do Not Have Wireless Charging Built in
Old iPhones do not have wireless charging built in. Those iPhones include:
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone SE
- iPhone 6S
- iPhone 6S Plus
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5S
You cannot just place these iPhones onto a wireless charger to get them charged.
However, you can add wireless charging ability to these old iPhones, and any Qi wireless charger can charge these old iPhones wirelessly.
How to Add Wireless Charging to Old iPhones
If you prefer the wireless charging way for your old iPhones, you can add the wireless charging feature to them.
The most common method is to use a wireless charging receiver.
A wireless charging receiver is a mini and thin tag (or card) that has wireless charging coils inside. These coils help to receive power from the Qi wireless charger and flow (transfer) it to the phone’s battery.
We’ve covered how to select a best wireless charging receiver for your phone in the post: Best Wireless Charging Receivers in 2020 & How to Select. You may click to see the details.
Nillkin, and YKing are the industry leaders in this field.
Select one and add it to your old iPhone.
Once done, place your iPhone onto any Qi wireless charger. The charger will recognize the iPhone immediately and start charging it. It’s the same as the latest iPhones.
The only difference is that these old iPhones can only be charged at 5W standard charging speed, not compatible with fast wireless charging.
How to Select a Best Wireless Charger for iPhones
There are several important factors that make it a best wireless charger for iPhone. Take them into consideration when selecting a best wireless charger for your iPhone.
WPC certificated
Make sure the wireless charger you are looking at is WPC certificated. WPC certificated means the wireless charger has been tested by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). This ensures that the charger is both safe and complies with the Qi standard.
Fast wireless charging compatible
It’s best to choose a fast wireless charger for your iPhone. A fast wireless charger can charge the latest iPhones at 7.5W fast charging mode, and charge the old iPhones as well as other smartphones at 5W standard charging mode. One fast wireless charger for all smartphones – it’s a best deal.
No overheating
Wireless charging may heat up your phone (see why and solutions). Chances are bigger if the wireless charger is in low quality. A good fast wireless charger should have a built-in smart system to prevent overheating and overcharge.
Brand with reputation
When it comes to wireless charging, always trust a big brand with reputation. Yootech, CHOETECH, Anker and Belkin are the top leaders in wireless charger industry.
Case-friendly
Many wireless chargers from top brands support charging phones via a case. Some are compatible with cases within 5mm, and some work with cases within 3mm. Make sure the wireless charger you’re going to buy can charge your iPhone via most cases in the market.
Do not use a metal case or the one that’s made of metal materials.
Price
Most high quality wireless chargers for iPhone are not pricey. You can get one with a nice price. Do not buy one whose price is obviously much lower than the average, for example, a $4 wireless charger from Wish.
