Qi is pronounced “chee” and it’s a global standard of wireless charging. Right now most of the high quality wireless chargers from top brands in the market use the Qi standard, such as Yootech, Anker, Samsung, CHOETECH and Seneo.
A Qi certified wireless charger or a wireless charger with Qi certification means it has been tested rigorously to ensure safety, interoperability, and energy efficiency by WPC (Wireless Power Consortium).
And only the wireless chargers that have passed the WPC tests can be considered Qi certified and use the Qi logo.
“How do I know if my wireless charger is Qi certified?”
When it comes to wireless chargers, we strongly recommend you use a Qi certified wireless charger to charge your phone. There are several ways to know if your wireless charger is Qi certified or not.
1. Check if there is a Qi logo.
The Qi logo can only be used legally for products that have Qi certification. If the wireless charger is Qi certified, it should have the Qi logo.
2. Check whether the manufacturer is a member of the WPC.
Only the companies or the manufacturers that are members of the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) and that have signed the Qi logo license agreement can certify a product.
You can see all the WPC members here: Member List of WPC.
And you can also search the name to find if it’s a member or not.
3. Check the Qi certification database.
All products that are Qi certified can be found in WPC product database. You may search the brand name, manufacturer name, product name or type name to find a match.
4. See the Qi claim.
“Qi certified” is the only official Qi claim. Other claims like “works with Qi”, “Qi compliant”, “Qi compatible”, or “compatible with Qi” may indicate that the wireless charger is not official Qi certificated.
You can use these methods to check if your device is Qi certified. Most of the high quality wireless chargers from top brands in the market are Qi certified, and the best Qi wireless chargers are Yootech, Anker, Samsung, CHOETECH and Seneo.
A Qi certified wireless charger guarantees safety, interoperability, and energy efficiency, while a non-Qi-certified may ruin your smartphone.
|Qi-Certified Wireless Chargers||Non-Qi-Certified Wireless Chargers|
|Have the Foreign Object Detection (FOD) measures to smartly detect and protect the phone.||No FOD and could get overheated easily.|
|Have built-in smart system to prevent overcharge and overheating.||Could get overcharged easily and damage the phone battery.|
|Work with all smartphones that have wireless charging.||May get incompatibility issues during charging.|
High quality Qi certified wireless chargers nowadays are very cheap. There is no need to buy a non-Qi-certified one.
